Support Us
Support us by volunteering at your local community library.
Cards & Crafts
A lovely selection of greeting cards, hand made by library volunteers using recycled cards is available for purchase. Small handmade craft items in crochet, knitting and sewing are also available at great prices. They make excellent gifts.
All profits from the sale of cards and crafts are used to help keep library services running. Donations of any used greeting cards (birthdays, anniversaries, house moves, etc.) are gratefully received.
Fundraising
As well as raising funds in order to provide a new library and community centre, the trustees also need to provide an income stream in order to run the business; maintenance of the building, renewing the book stock, heating, lighting and a whole list of other things. This income can be raised in a number of ways.
Donations
Over the years we have received grants/donations from other organisations that gather funds and distribute them to good causes. These are always welcome and if you feel that you are able to support this community based organisation we would be pleased to hear from you. Any amount, no matter how small, can really make a difference.
Grants
These are amounts of money that are granted to us by other charities and organisations. This usually entails us being aware of the organisations that exist and writing to them asking for their support in order to keep us going. The Langtree Trust, Gloucestershire County Council and Renishaw are examples of this type of fundraising.
This method depends on a dedicated person keeping the charity lists up to date and writing the letters. Gift Aid can also be acquired with this method of fundraising and adds a further 25% to the total.
Sales
The craft club makes a range of items including mobile phone cases, shoe bags, needle cases and a very good range of birthday and other celebratory cards. We also run a photographic competition and use the winning pictures in a calendar which is sold and last year raised over £700.
Bequests
Would you consider, when drawing up your will, putting in a bequest that would benefit the library? We would be very grateful and we are already mentioned in the bequest books of all the local undertakers.
Hire us
This raises valuable funds. In the past we have had Quizzes, Sponsored Walks, Carol Singing and more!
Volunteer Opportunities
We currently have volunteers working as library assistants to offer library services, as well as others volunteers that help with cleaning and maintenance. We are looking to recruit more people for the following roles:
Baby Bounce & Rhyme sessions – weekly
Volunteering with us at the library can help towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and also help your local community. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with Berkeley Books Community Library, please contact our Library Supervisor.
